Harriet Tubman’s adopted daughter was named Gertie Davis. Gertie was adopted by Harriet Tubman and her second husband, Nelson Davis, in 18741. Nelson Davis, a Civil War veteran, married Harriet Tubman on March 18, 1869, after meeting her at her boarding house in Auburn2. The couple decided to adopt Gertie five years after their marriage. There isn’t much detailed public information about Gertie’s life, but she is remembered as a cherished part of Harriet Tubman’s family legacy.

Harriet Tubman had two husbands during her lifetime. Her first husband was John Tubman, whom she married in 1844, but they separated when she escaped slavery in 18494.
