After graduating, Grier moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where she became the first African American woman to hold a medical license in the state.
She set up a private practice specializing in obstetrics and gynecology.
Grier challenged the status quo, saying, “Why should I not get the fee myself?” when she observed white doctors benefiting from the work of Black women during childbirth.
Unfortunately, due to illness, she had to stop practicing just three years after opening her practice.
