Jumbo Mug, 20oz (Minnie M. Cox)
$14.00
Minnie M. Cox (1869–1933) was an American teacher who made history as the first Black postmaster in Mississippi. She was appointed during the administration of President Benjamin Harrison in 1891. Despite facing threats of violence from whites in Indianola, she remained dedicated to equal rights. After her postmaster appointment expired in 1904, she and her husband opened the Delta Penny Savings Bank, one of the earliest black-owned banks in the state, and founded the Mississippi Life Insurance Company to protect Black citizens’ assets. 🌟
