- By 1778, he settled at the mouth of the Chicago River, where he built a trading post and homestead.
- His estate included a house, horse mill, bakehouse, dairy, smokehouse, poultry house, workshop, stable, and barn.
- Married Kitihawa, a Potawatomi woman, further strengthening his ties with Indigenous communities.
- His settlement became a key hub for fur and grain trade, attracting merchants and settlers.
Later Years & Legacy
- In 1800, he sold his property and moved to St. Charles, Missouri, where he ran a ferry service.
- Passed away on August 28, 1818, largely forgotten until the mid-20th century.
- Today, Chicago honors him with DuSable Bridge, DuSable Park, DuSable Museum of African American History, and a statue in Pioneer Court.
