Pharaoh Taharqa (sometimes spelled Taharqo or Taharqa) was a Kushite king who ruled Egypt and Nubia during the 25th Dynasty (690–664 BCE). He was one of the “Black Pharaohs” from the Kingdom of Kush (modern-day Sudan), known for his military leadership, religious devotion, and architectural achievements.

- Military Campaigns – Taharqa initially supported Palestine’s resistance against the Assyrian king Sennacherib, but later faced invasions from Esarhaddon and Ashurbanipal, leading to his retreat to Nubia.
- Architectural Contributions – He commissioned temples, pyramids, and monuments, including expansions to the Temple of Karnak and structures in Nubia.
- Religious Influence – He was a strong supporter of the cult of Amun, reinforcing the connection between Egyptian and Nubian traditions.
- Final Years – After being defeated by the Assyrians, he fled to Nubia, where he died and was buried in a large pyramid at Nuri.
