$26.82
Abby Fisher, sometimes spelled as Abbie Fisher, was an African American former slave who became a renowned cook and author. Born around 1831 in Orangeburg, South Carolina, she earned her living as a pickle manufacturer in San Francisco. Fisher is best known for publishing the second known cookbook by a Black woman in the United States, titled “What Mrs. Fisher Knows About Old Southern Cooking,” in 1881.
Her cookbook, which was dictated to friends because she could not read or write, includes a variety of recipes that reflect her Southern heritage and culinary expertise. Fisher’s work has had a lasting impact on American cuisine and continues to be celebrated for its historical and cultural significance
