In 1892, Anna received a U.S. patent for a kitchen tool she called the pastry fork—a multi-purpose utensil designed to:

• Knead pastry dough without using hands
• Beat eggs and mash potatoes
• Prepare salad dressings and drawn butter

Her invention made baking more efficient and less physically taxing, especially for women doing domestic labor. It was later showcased at the World’s Columbian Exposition in 1893, highlighting Black ingenuity at a time when African Americans were often excluded from such platforms.

• Raised in Nantucket, Massachusetts, she was adopted by abolitionist-connected guardians and educated in integrated schools
