Weekender Bag (BLACK HISTORY CELEBRATION WEEKEND BAG)

Black History Month is an annual celebration of the achievements and contributions of Black individuals and communities throughout history. It takes place every February in the United States and Canada, and in October in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

The origins of Black History Month date back to 1926, when historian Carter G. Woodson established “Negro History Week” to promote the study of African American history and culture. Woodson chose the second week of February to coincide with the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass. The week-long celebration gained popularity over the years, and in 1976, President Gerald Ford officially recognized it as Black History Month.

The month is marked by various events, including educational programs, cultural activities, and community gatherings, to honor the legacy and contributions of Black individuals in various fields. Each year, the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) selects a theme to highlight specific aspects of Black history
